MBSE hits the road: bringing F&I training directly to dealerships

This February, Moonstone Business School of Excellence (MBSE) is taking its tailored training for automotive dealership Finance and Insurance (F&I) professionals to the next level – by visiting dealerships directly.

Throughout the month, MBSE representatives will meet clients at their workplaces, engage them on their training needs for the year ahead, and distribute informative flyers covering training offerings for F&I, the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA), and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

The initiative builds on MBSE’s October 2025 launch of dedicated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) packages for F&I professionals. These packages were the first CPD products developed specifically for a defined segment outside traditional financial institutions. The launch introduced a dedicated F&I webpage and structured CPD bundles designed to simplify compliance for professionals who play a crucial role in facilitating vehicle finance while navigating the Fit and Proper requirements under the FAIS Act.

“The dedicated F&I page brought together all essential training in one place, making compliance clearer and more manageable for a part of the market that often operates on the periphery of the financial services sector,” says Willem van der Westhuizen, business development manager at MBSE.

The February dealership visits represent an extension of last year’s efforts, providing F&I professionals with direct access to guidance and resources without having to navigate the online portal alone. MBSE sees this hands-on engagement as a way to deepen relationships with clients and ensure that training solutions are tailored to real-world workplace needs.

Van der Westhuizen says the F&I segment has gained increasing focus over the past year as dealerships and regulators alike recognise the vital role these professionals play in both customer experience and regulatory compliance.

“With stricter enforcement of FAIS Fit and Proper requirements, along with growing awareness of obligations under FICA and POPIA, the pressure on F&I staff to stay current has never been higher,” adds Van der Westhuizen.

MBSE’s targeted approach helps these professionals remain compliant, while also enhancing their skills and customer service capabilities.

“Our goal is simple: bring CPD and compliance support directly to where F&I professionals work, making it easier for them to meet regulatory obligations while strengthening their on-the-job skills,” says Van der Westhuizen.

The CPD cycle runs annually from 1 June to 31 May. MBSE’s new offering includes three structured packages designed around different levels of responsibility and classes of business:

  • Package 1 (6 CPD hours) – Focused on communication and customer service for professionals working in a single subclass.
  • Package 2 (12 CPD hours) – Covers customer experience and key regulatory topics such as FICA and POPIA for those handling more than one subclass.
  • Package 3 (18 CPD hours) – A comprehensive option for professionals working across multiple classes of business, offering a full regulatory and conduct-focused curriculum.

Each package combines technical knowledge with practical workplace skills, such as customer service, communication, and regulatory awareness.

In addition to CPD training, F&I professionals can access the full suite of FAIS-related qualifications and regulatory courses through MBSE – including RE5 exam preparation, NCA training, Short-term Insurance qualifications (FETC Short-term Insurance and Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance), and Class of Business Training (Short-term Insurance – Personal Lines and Short-term Insurance – Commercial Lines).

The dedicated F&I page also provides step-by-step guidance on Fit and Proper compliance, helping users understand what they need to enter and remain in the profession.

By combining online resources, structured CPD packages, and in-person dealership engagement, MBSE continues to position itself as the go-to provider for F&I professionals – ensuring that those who finance and insure South Africa’s vehicles are equipped for the challenges of 2026 and beyond.
