National Treasury has extended the deadline to submit comments on the draft General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill.

The new deadline is the close of business on Monday, 2 March. This is in terms of Notice 7141 published in Government Gazette No. 54172 on 19 February 2026.

The draft Bill was published on 14 January, with 30 days for public comments, making the original deadline 13 February.

The draft Bill aims to strengthen South Africa’s anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) framework by addressing the remaining deficiencies identified in the 2021 Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Mutual Evaluation Report, as well as those noted during the remedial process that led to South Africa’s exit from the FATF grey list in October 2025. These changes are intended to prepare South Africa for its next FATF mutual evaluation, set to commence in mid-2026 and conclude in October 2027.

The legislation proposes amendments to four statutes: the Nonprofit Organisations Act, the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, the Companies Act, and the Financial Sector Regulation Act.
