What does the future hold for financial advice, and how are the people working in the industry responding to the changes already under way?

Those questions ran through the FIA Advice Summit 2026, held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 13 October under the theme “Provenance: Nothing Compounds Like Trust”.

The programme covered artificial intelligence, regulatory change, climate risk, healthcare affordability, education, and the future of advice businesses. But beyond the presentations and panel discussions, the summit offered an opportunity to hear directly from the people working through these issues.

Nettalie Viljoen, deputy editor of Moonstone Publications, to Financial Intermediaries Association of Southern Africa chief executive Lizelle van der Merwe and FIA president Ronald King about the issues shaping the advice profession. She also interviewed industry representatives Fatima Seedat, Thomas de Wet, and William Nkosi, as well as exhibitors Daniel Weston and Charmaine Fouche.

FIA leadership on the issues facing the profession

The FIA’s priorities and its engagement with the advice profession were among the subjects explored in the interviews with the association’s leadership.

In the conversation with Van der Merwe, the FIA chief executive discusses the association’s agenda and the issues it is addressing on behalf of the industry.

The interview with King looks at the relationship between the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and financial intermediaries.
