Phumlani Ntanzi, regional sales manager at Sanlam, is one of MBSE’s top students of 2023. Ntanzi says he enrolled in MBSE’s Advanced Certificate in Financial Planning (ACFP) because he wanted to take his financial planning and related skills to the next level “to be able to assist with complex and advanced planning”.
The ACFP qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to provide holistic financial planning services and prepares you for further specialised studies in financial planning.

The course consists of four compulsory models: financial planning environment, business management, corporate financial planning, and personal financial planning. It also includes a financial planning case study.
Ntanzi says while all the modules were interesting and helpful, he found the financial planning case study the most insightful.
“It incorporated all the other modules and brought to life and reality the aspects of the whole course,” he says.
MBSE is one of only a handful of accredited institutions that offer the Advanced Certificate in Financial Planning online. However, online learning requires a lot of self-discipline.
Ntanzi admits that this way of learning really tested his level of dedication and commitment.
“In any event, dedication and commitment are required in this industry and in performing daily duties. Tight deadlines were really a challenge. It meant that you had to get going as soon as the module was opened, create a study plan, and stick to it,” he says.
For those who are unsure whether they should take the plunge and enrol, Ntanzi says he would recommend this course, and MBSE, to anyone wanting to further their studies in this field.
“It broadens your knowledge and makes it possible to apply it in real-life experience,” he says.

- Advanced Certificate in Financial Planning (NQF 6)
- Occupational Certificate: Compliance Officer (NQF 6)
- Higher Certificate in Wealth Management (NQF 5)
- Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance (NQF 5)
The Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning is essential for financial advisers who want to provide holistic financial planning. It is one of the requirements for obtaining the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner accreditation from the Financial Planning Institute.

What are the prerequisites for doing the advanced certificate in financial planning?
An appropriate, accredited NQF Level 5 equivalent that provides students with the required literacy, numerical ability, and competence to undertake studies at NQF Level 6. Individuals who do not meet the entry requirement for this qualification, can enrol with MBSE for the Higher Certificate in Wealth Management (HCWM) at NQF5.
