Webinar | COFI readiness without the compliance complexity

Small financial services providers and sole proprietors will be the focus of an upcoming Moonstone Compliance webinar on how smaller advice practices can prepare for the Conduct of Financial Institutions (COFI) framework without overcomplicating their compliance arrangements.

The webinar takes place on Wednesday, 26 August 2026 via Microsoft Teams. It is aimed at sole proprietors and small Category I and/or Category IV FSPs with simple business models, particularly businesses with one key individual and one or two representatives.

Moonstone Compliance clients can attend at no cost, while the fee for members of the public is R100 excluding VAT.

As the financial services industry prepares for the implementation of the COFI framework, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority continues to emphasise governance, customer outcomes, risk management, and evidence-based supervision. Although these developments are often associated with larger institutions, they also have practical implications for small FSPs.

For small practices without dedicated compliance departments, the challenge is to meet evolving regulatory expectations in a way that is appropriate to the size and complexity of the business. The focus is increasingly not simply on whether policies and procedures exist, but on whether an FSP can demonstrate that its arrangements are operating effectively and supporting fair customer outcomes.

The webinar will not provide a technical legal analysis of COFI. Instead, it will focus on the practical implications of the FSCA’s supervisory direction and how smaller FSPs can prepare for an increasingly outcomes-based regulatory environment.

The session will examine what the FSCA expects from small FSPs in areas including governance, complaints management, risk management, internal controls, monitoring activities, and evidence of compliance. Practical examples will illustrate how these measures can be implemented proportionately within smaller businesses.

Participants will also be introduced to practical tools and processes that can support a COFI-ready practice, including risk registers, complaints registers, monitoring plans, annual review processes, conflict-management measures, and supporting documentation.

The webinar will also consider common compliance pitfalls and provide practical recommendations that small FSPs can implement immediately to strengthen governance and regulatory readiness.

The webinar will be presented by Dylan Mc Kenzie and Lizé Fryer, both compliance researchers and developers at Moonstone Compliance.

Mc Kenzie joined Moonstone in 2024 as a member of the Regulatory Support Team. He completed his LLB at the University of the Free State and supports Moonstone’s compliance officers and self-comply clients with regulatory updates and the development and review of compliance tools, including policies, procedures, control documents, and audits. He is also a member of Moonstone’s Risk Committee.

Fryer joined Moonstone Compliance in 2026 and is also part of the Regulatory Support Team. She holds an LLB, LLM, and LLD, with doctoral research focused on data protection and information privacy. Her work includes monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, preparing regulatory updates, developing compliance and audit tools, and contributing to training material and guidance for FSPs.

The webinar takes place on Microsoft Teams from 10am to 12pm on 26 August 2026.

No CPD hours will be allocated for attending the webinar.

Registration closes at 4pm on 21 August and payment must be received by 12pm on 24 August.
