Moonstone Business School of Excellence (MBSE) is accepting applications for the Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance (HCSTI) in the second semester. This trend-setting qualification will enable you to stay relevant in today’s fast-changing insurance landscape.

Students who complete the HCSTI (NQF 5) will:

  • Have a basic understanding of the key terms, rules, concepts and principles of the non-life insurance field and accompanying legislative requirements;
  • Be able to identify clients’ needs through a comprehensive risk analysis process; and
  • Be able to develop a risk management plan to mitigate, avoid or manage the identified insurance risks.

Jaen van Zyl, who excelled in the HCSTI exams in 2022, said she would certainly recommend studying for this qualification at MBSE because she was provided “with every tool to succeed”, and MBSE “is organised and straightforward”.

One of her motivations to study was the reality that an insurance qualification is essential if you want to stand out in today’s competitive jobs market.

“I don’t have a lot of experience, and nobody even looks at your CV without an insurance qualification or experience. No matter how hard you work, how intelligent you are, if your CV doesn’t show those things, you won’t get the opportunity,” said Van Zyl, an administrator at a commercial insurance brokerage.

She said the HCSTI has provided her with a better insight into how insurance works and gave her the vocabulary, understanding, and knowledge to better express herself and find solutions to everyday challenges.
