The board of the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (Asisa) has announced that chief executive Busisa Jiya (pictured) will be leaving by mutual agreement at the end of December.

Jiya was appointed as chief executive on 1 February 2022 following the retirement of Leon Campher after a career of 49 years in the savings and investment sector.

In a statement yesterday, Asisa said Jiya was vacating his position to pursue other opportunities.

“The board would like to thank Busisa for his contribution to transitioning Asisa into the next phase as Asisa celebrates 15 years of existence,” the board said.

In July, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan appointed to the board of Transnet.

When he was appointed by Asisa, the association said Jiya holds a Bachelor of Business Science with majors in economics and actuarial science from the University of Cape Town. He started his career as an equity analyst in 1996, and he progressed into senior leadership roles. He served as managing director of Absa Asset Management, managing director of Thomson Reuters (Africa), and acting chief executive and principal officer of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund.

Asisa represents most of South Africa’s asset managers, collective investment scheme management companies, linked investment service providers, multi-managers, and life insurance companies.
