A number of important documents were placed on the FSB website on Friday. Two of these are of particular importance to those involved in training, as well as those who are subject to certain deadlines in so far as obtaining a recognised qualification is concerned.

New List of Recognised Qualifications

A new list, containing the latest information on recognised qualifications, was published in Board Notice 268 of 2013. We provide a link below. If you have queries, or difficulty in interpreting the information, please speak to our training specialists, Albert or Ronel at 021 883 8000. You can also chat to them about our new training course on the National Credit Act, or visit our website for more information.

Qualification Deadline Extension

Persons who were required to meet specific qualification requirements by 31 December 2013 may not be able to comply therewith, despite having successfully concluded the required training. This could be due to the relevant SETA verification process not having been completed.

FAIS Information Circular 10/2013 addresses this issue, and explains the background as follows:

The quality assurance processes that apply to qualifications offered by training providers accredited by a SETA must be subjected to a verification process prior to the qualification being awarded to the learner. Until such time that the verification process has been completed a learner cannot be regarded as having successfully obtained the qualification.

Those persons who completed the qualification modules and assessments may have received a certificate of competence from the training provider. However, a certificate of competence does not mean that the qualification has been awarded, because the certificate must still go through the SETA verification process. Only once the verification has been completed to the satisfaction of the SETA can the qualification be awarded.

In an attempt to accommodate people in this predicament, the FSB made the following decision:

The Registrar, in order to avoid that providers are adversely impacted by the verification processes of the relevant SETAs, has decided to assist those affected providers by granting them an extension, on an individual basis, to the qualification deadline of 31 December 2013. The extension will endure until such time that the SETAs have completed their verification processes. The Registrar was informed that the estimated date of completion is 31 March 2014.
