Regulator extends the deadline for PAIA annual reports

Posted on

The Information Regulator (IR) has given public and private bodies until Friday, 7 July, to submit reports on the requests for information they received and processed in the 2022/23 financial year.

The original deadline was 30 June, but the IR has extended it because of problems with the online submission portal.

The regulator said information officers, heads of private bodies, or deputy information officers who have not yet submitted their reports for 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023 should submit them via https://registrations.inforegulator.org.za/landing.

“Although section 83(4) of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) provides that the head of a private body may submit its annual report to the regulator upon request, the heads of private bodies are encouraged to submit their annual report because this is good practice. It encourages transparency and enables the regulator to assess how members of the public are exercising their constitutional right of access to information and to report to Parliament in terms of section 84 of PAIA,” the IR said in a statement on 30 June.

The statement said reports should be submitted as follows:

  1. Create a profile if you do not have a profile.
  2. The system will send a one-time password (OTP) for security purposes. Please ensure the correct cellphone number is captured when creating the profile.
  3. Log into the system using your email address and the password you created.
  4. Select the PAIA Annual Reporting tab and input the requested information.
  5. Once you have submitted the information, you will receive an email confirming your submission.
