Falling ill or becoming seriously injured is unavoidable. A failure by an employer proactively to manage an employee’s ill health when it is unduly prolonged can be detrimental to the workplace culture and the employee’s well-being. It negatively impacts on team morale, leading to employee turnover and loss of productivity and profitability.
The Code of Good Practice: Incapacity Ill Health provides the employer with a procedure to prevent the utilisation of sick leave from becoming wasteful and damaging, and to minimise the loss of work resulting from ill health, and to find ways of reducing the burdens and costs, in the best interest of both the employee and the employer.
The webinar will equip you with the knowledge and skills to manage ill health step by step. You will be provided with tools that will enable you to identify and approach individuals with the different types of incapacity (permanent or temporary), understand the steps and conversations to have with them and the relevant stakeholders to attempt to ascertain the seriousness of the underlying cause and the alternatives available, and ascertain when it’s time to end the process.
At the end of the webinar, line managers will be equipped with the knowledge and skills proactively to identify and investigate the relevant factors to consider as part of the counselling process, manage the counselling process, reasonably accommodate and or adapt roles, and determine under which circumstances counselling and rehabilitation become relevant.
