Poor Cyril Mitchley will never live down this Gladiators call to arms, but this is how most of us feel about the upcoming Rugby Championship.

Argentina arrived on our shores with a relatively unknown side, although they have been together for quite some time, which should help their cause.

The Springbok side is a mixture of experience and excitement, and I would recommend that Heyneke takes a “hartpilletjie” before the kick-off.

It appears that the same process was followed in the incoming series where new players found themselves next to experienced statesmen. De Allende has De Villiers on his inside, and Ruan Pienaar will be tasked with protecting Pollard. I am a little concerned about Cornal Hendricks, though – three tests hardly make him a veteran.

The pack is a tried and tested combination, and with the South American side shifting their focus to more of a running game than in the past, our forwards should dominate.Damian de Allende 2014

Heyneke pointed out that rotation will play a big role as a result of the fact that we are the only side to play three away matches in a row. Keeping the players fresh is of paramount importance as a result of this.

Kurtley Beale at flyhalf ahead of Bernard Foley in the Aussie starting line-up certainly raised some eyebrows. My own feeling is that Beale tends to perform far better in Super Rugby, and tends to fade under the pressure of test rugby.

Some commentators expressed surprise at the selection of Ben Smith ahead of Israel Dagg. If I was given the choice to select an All Black side against the Springboks, I would far rather pick Dagg. Smith had a monster Super series, and is a far bigger threat than Dagg.
