Extension of submission of Financial Statements

Posted on 5 Comments

On Monday we reminded subscribers of the 30 June deadline for the submission of financial statements where their financial year ended on 28 February.

Subsequently, we received a number of enquiries about applying for an extension of this deadline.

The FSB website states the following:

1. Extensions

An application for an extension to submit financial statements can be submitted to the Registrar in terms of section 4(1) of the FAIS Act by:

1.1 Preferred method – a request submitted electronically via the FSB’s FAIS Online system. To submit a request for extension, log onto the FAIS Online system on the FSB’s website and apply for extension online.
1.2 Send a facsimile to (012) 422 2973. Specify the FSP number and the word “Extension” on the front page of the fax. Please do not use any other fax number.
1.3 Send an email to faisfins1@fsb.co.za. It is important that you include the word “Extension” as well as the FSP number in the subject line in order to expedite the request.

A request for extension must be done 15 days prior to the submission date. Please note that extension will not be granted if any financial statements or compliance reports are outstanding.

The FSB finance department has confirmed that they use the same account details that are used for Levy payments.

The current fee for requesting an extension is R574.00.

  1. Hi, i left short term insurance to work in long term insurance in 2021.
i have now been offered a job in short term however my dofa is June 2024. Is it possible to get an extension of a year just so that i can complete it while working in the new role? or how much time can be granted for an extension?

    1. Hi. It seems you have been working continually in financial services as a rep but have changed product lines. When you say your DOFA is 2024, does that mean you must be qualified by 2024? You can apply to the FSCA for an extension. This will be done through your FSP, which will complete the paperwork. The request will have to motivated with good reasons.

  2. Hi I recently applied for a new job, it was successful however I was told to do my qualification 120 credits or contact FAIS to extend my DOFA, which I’m currently confused whether whom do i contact?

    1. I am confused, too. I don’t know how a DOFA can be extended. You can be granted more time to get your credits. As far as I am aware, your FSP should submit a motivation to the FSCA for this extension.

  3. Hi I’m currently not working for any fsp. I am currently out of dofa and have no credit.i was advised by a recruiter that I can apply for the extension to the fsca and was sent the paper work .can this be done even if now I’m not with any Fsp.
