Predictably Unpredictable Super Rugby

Posted on

I know it sounds like sour grapes, but after seeing the results in our Superbru pool yesterday, I consoled myself, after only scoring two points, by saying that anyone who got more than three points does not know much about rugby.

This weekend will not be much different. A major factor will be the ability of all of last week’s surprise losers to regain their confidence and pride.

Bulls/Hurricanes

This match will be the first indicator involving an SA side. Judging by the comments from supporters after last week’s shock defeat at home against the arch enemy, the Stormers, the Bulls need to win handsomely against a team with a star-studded backline, and very impressive defence. On paper, the Bulls have all the talent, which is the main reason why so many proud supporters are up in arms.

Stormers/Blues

Sharks/Lions

How much can change in one week? Will we see a changed game plan from the Lions? Can the Sharks pick themselves up off the ground after last week’s debacle?

This is another match where the big names take on the brave hearts. The problems for the Sharks in the front row last week will be repeated against a formidable Lions pack, unless they do something drastic. It will also be interesting to see if Brendan Venter managed to turn the minds of the backline enough to start scoring the tries they are so capable of doing, in theory.

I picked the Sharks in Superbru, as I did last week. Party mense wil mos net nie leer nie!
